AREA OBITUARIES – Jean Henry

Nora Jean Wall Henry passed away peacefully from this life July 30, 2026. She went home to be with Jesus and join her beloved husband JV. She was born Jan. 9, 1932 to Vernon and Inez Wall of the Chestnut Glade Community. In reality she was 94 but if you asked her, she never aged beyond 85. She was a devoted mother to Sharon, Stephen and Dianne, Granny to Matthew, Tyler, Erin, Kaitlyn, Evan, Nora and Davis, and Great-Granny to Ainsley, Bentley, Darcy and Hadley.
Jean grew up on the farm with her sister Mary and her brother Charles. She went to church at Oak Grove Church of Christ and went to school at Chestnut Glade. In high school she transferred to Martin where she played basketball and impressed her teachers for her ability to diagram sentences. She graduated from Freed Hardeman College, and then taught school at Terry Norman in Fulton, Ky., beginning a teaching career that spanned over 40 years. After that, she moved to Memphis where she worked for the University of Memphis in the medical lab and then taught at Cherokee Elementary School. While in Memphis, Jean met JV, a cousin of her roommate. She promised to write him when he went off to service in Germany, and when he returned home they married on Feb. 7, 1958. In 1963 they moved back to Fulton, and she taught at Dresden. Then they moved to South Fulton, Tenn., where she taught third grade at South Fulton Elementary. She had a gift for teaching and cared for her students deeply.
Jean was a member of Smith Street Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years, was an elder’s wife, and enjoyed her Ladies Bible Class. She loved her family beyond measure. She was a lovely homemaker, a wonderful cook, and a beautiful seamstress. She loved to cross-stitch and spent her summers canning vegetables from the garden.
Jean is survived by her daughters Sharon Perring (Bill), of Guthrie, Okla., and Dianne Roberts (Kerry), of Springfield, Tenn.; grandchildren, Matthew Perring (Amanda), of Searcy, Ark., Tyler Perring, of Dallas, Texas, Erin Perring, of Memphis, Tenn., Kaitlyn Frizzell, (John), of Memphis, Tenn., Evan Roberts, of Cookeville, Tenn., Nora Mooney (Jake), of Searcy, Ark., and Davis Roberts (Kaylynn), of Cookeville, Tenn. Great-grandchildren are Ainsley and Bentley Perring and Darcy and Hadley Frizzell. Jean is also survived by her brother Charles Wall (Dorothy), of Harrisburg, Ill., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, J.V.; her son, Stephen Henry; her parents, Vernon and Inez Wall; and her sister, Mary Hazlewood.
Funeral services will be held at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel on Fri., Aug. 7, 2026 at 11 a.m. with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be held Thurs., Aug. 6 from 6-8 p.m. and Fri., Aug. 7 at 10 a.m..
