SFMS Red Devils open season with victory over West Carroll

The South Fulton Middle School Red Devils opened the 2025 football season with a 36-14 victory over the West Carroll War Eagles Thurs., Aug. 14.
Jayden Purefide got the Red Devils on the board in the first quarter with a two yard run, and the two-point attempt by Gerron Martin was successful as the Red Devils took an 8-0 lead.
The Red Devils would add to their lead with another score in the first quarter, this time behind a two-yard run by Kade Clanton. The two-point attempt was unsuccessful, and the Red Devils led 14-0 after one quarter.
Clanton would once again find the endzone once again in the second quarter behind an eight-yard run, and Aiden Wright was successful on the two-point attempt as the Red Devils added to their lead, 22-0. Before the first half was over, Gavin Goldberg would score from five yards out, with Wright scoring again on the two-point try to put the Red Devils up 30-0 heading into halftime.
The War Eagles would trim into the Red Devils in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns and one two-point conversion, making the score 30-14 still in favor of the Red Devils.
Purefide would end the scoring on the evening with a 58-yard kick-off return, however, the two-point was unsuccessful, bringing the score to 36-14.
The Red Devils racked up 103 yards on the ground, led by Purefide with 94 rushing yards on 10 attempts. Clanton had four carries for 29 yards, Goldbeck one carry for five yards, Gavin Adams two carries for -7 yards, and Holden Crabtree 2 carries for -18 yards.
Through the air, the Red Devils attempted only two passes, with Wright converting on one pass to Martin for eight yards.
The Red Devils will travel to Obion County Central Thurs., Aug. 21, with kick-off set for 6:30 p.m.
